Reality or Claims? — A Hard Word by Thomas H. Reynolds

A most important point is connected with Isaiah 63 and the following chapters. God’s final separation between that which claims to represent Him but entirely falsifies His character and the remnant of His people who are broken in heart and tremble at His word. Was the proud nation, claiming to be Israel and the seed of Abraham, always to hate and cast out the brethren who feared Jehovah and hearkened unto the voice of His servant? Was the oppression and pretension always to go on, and Jehovah to take no notice of it? Is there never to be a distinction made between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not? Will not God avenge His own elect, though He bear long with them? The day will come when that which has been in the place of fruit-bearing, but has not borne fruit, will be cast into the winepress of the wrath of God. Isaiah 63 refers to this. It will be a fearful moment for religionists when God refuses their pretension to speak of and represent Him, and for ever destroys all that is false, whilst He owns those who tremble at His word – the scriptures which the scientific theologian is unable to understand. “Wisdom is justified of her children;” but the fool “saith to every man that he is a fool.”
